Expanding Through Transition

Growth often comes in the spaces we least expect—in moments of change, in pauses, in support. This September, we’re exploring how leaning into support—both on the mat with the yoga strap and in life—can help us expand into new possibilities. Strength isn’t always about pushing harder; it’s about softening, opening, and allowing ourselves to grow through transitions.
This September, our yoga strap becomes a guide. More than a piece of fabric, it’s a symbol of how support allows us to expand, lengthen, and move with more ease. With its help, we meet our body where it is—while also inviting possibility beyond what we thought was within reach.
Support doesn’t hold us back—it carries us forward.
Just like the strap, support in daily life doesn’t diminish our strength; it deepens it. Whether it’s leaning into community, family, or self-care practices, receiving help makes space for growth without unnecessary strain.
On the mat, this looks like:
🧘♀️ Using the strap in forward folds to lengthen the spine and release the back without forcing
🧘♀️ Looping the strap around the feet in seated stretches to open with steadiness and control
🧘♀️ Enhancing balance by holding the strap in standing poses, allowing expansion without wobble
🧘♀️ Creating gentle shoulder or chest openers with the strap behind the back
And off the mat, the invitation is just the same:
🍂 Lean into the shifts and transitions in your life, allowing routines, rituals, and supportive people to help you stay grounded
🍂 Notice where receiving support—rather than doing it all alone—can create more freedom and ease
🍂 Allow small acts of support—rest, presence, or gratitude—to expand your capacity and open space for growth
Everything changes. By now, you’ve probably gathered that the only thing certain in life is change itself. This past year, my older son (9) discovered that some of the magic in his life had actually been me and his dad working hard behind the scenes. Christmas 2024 was his last believing in Santa, and the Tooth Fairy’s visits came to an end sooner than we expected!
When he asked for the truth, we didn’t lie—we welcomed him into the “top secret magic club,” where he now gets to help bring the wonder to his younger brother. Just days ago, he had his first mission: sneaking into his brother’s room with a note and money from the Tooth Fairy. I watched as he slipped back into bed afterward, grinning ear to ear with pride.
It was a moment of transition—not just for him, but for me as a parent. And while part of me wanted to resist the change, I realized there was so much expansion waiting inside it. His belief shifted from receiving magic to creating it—a beautiful reminder that transitions aren’t just endings, but opportunities to grow into something new.
That’s the invitation of this month: to expand through transition rather than resist it. Just like the strap helps us find space where we once felt stuck, change opens doorways to growth if we lean in with openness and curiosity.
This month, consider journaling with these reflections:
📝 How do I usually respond to transitions—do I resist, push, or soften—and what might expand within me if I trusted the process of change?
📝 What kind of support allows me to expand with more freedom, ease, or joy?
📝 Where in my life am I being invited to grow, and how can I meet that transition with openness?
At Nourished Roots Yoga, September is an invitation to:
✨ Stretch: into possibility with steadiness and ease
✨ Support: yourself with the tools and community that help you grow
✨ Soften: the belief that you must carry it all alone
✨ Expand: through every transition, trusting it will bring new gifts
As the seasons begin to turn, may the strap remind you that support creates space, and may each transition—whether in family life, on the mat, or within your heart—become an invitation to expand into the fullness of who you are becoming. 🌿
